Opioid drugs affect the part of the brain that controls breathing. When a person takes more opioids than their body can handle (overdose), or they are unknowingly exposed to toxic supply, a person's breathing slows. This can lead to unconsciousness and even death.
Signs of an Opioid Overdose/ Toxicity
Sometimes it can be difficult to tell if a person is just very high, or experiencing an overdose. Here are some symptoms to watch for. If you’re having a hard time telling the difference, it is best to treat the situation like an overdose – it could save someone’s life.
